About the course
The RigSMARTS 1 workshop improves operational safety and reduces crew turnover by providing foundational technical and interpersonal knowledge and skills to be successful in the drilling and completion industry.
Designed For
Operator technical support and operations supervision personnel, Drilling Contractor rig crew and technical support personnel, and Service Company personnel including fluids / solids control, directional / BHA / MWD, downhole Tools, casing and cementing, bit, wellhead / BOP, QA/QC, and logistics support
You will learn
  • To relate geology fundamentals to the oil and gas business and the drilling process specifically
  • Interpersonal skills required for effective teamwork
  • Effective communications in a drilling operation, including rig terminology
  • Systems and equipment at work on a drilling rig
  • Drilling fluid purposes, types, and additives
  • BOP equipment and describe their function
  • Casing and cementing in the construction of an oil and gas well
  • Identification and configuration of drill string components, including how they function and how they fail
  • To apply basic mathematical skills to problems on the rig
  • Directional drilling tools, applications and techniques
  • To draw linkages between technical and interpersonal capabilities
  • Conflict management and how to effectively resolve differences in the workplace
