Well Log Interpretation - WLI
Structural and Stratigraphic Interpretation of Dipmeters and Borehole-Imaging Logs - SSI
Evaluating and Developing Shale Resources - SRE
Petrophysics of Unconventional Reservoirs - PUR
Duration: 3 days
Instructor(s): Steve Sadoskas, John Sneider, Carl Sondergeld
Petrophysics is central to the integration of a wide spectrum of related geoscience and engineering disciplines. However, students should also be familiar with at least two or more of the following topics: horizontal well drilling, wireline logging and log analysis, coring and core analysis, petrophysics, geophysics, geochemistry, formation testing, rock mechanics, hydraulic fracturing, and petroleum economics.
Geoscientists involved with the evaluation and exploitation of unconventional reservoirs including tight gas sands, shale gas, and coal-bed methane.
You Will Learn:
MR. STEVE SADOSKAS is an oil and gas professional with over 35 years of experience in engineering, technical management, business development and operations management. Steve holds a BSEE from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. His career includes tours with Schlumberger, The Expro Group, Pinnacle Technologies, Baker Hughes, and Trican Well Services. During his Schlumberger career, Steve gained significant experience in marketing, delivery, and technical support for wireline services. At the Expro Group, he became versed in offshore well testing, permanent monitoring, and subsea completions intervention. While with Baker Hughes, Steve served as General Manager of VSFusion, a Baker Hughes/ CGG joint venture for hydraulic fracture monitoring, using microseismic and borehole seismic services. With VSFusion, he oversaw worldwide operations, R&D, sales, and data processing functions. Trican Well Services added valuable experience in hydraulic fracturing services and in new technology ventures. Over his career, Steve has conducted extensive training with service providers and operators, from small independents to majors and national oil companies. Steve has experience with most aspects of oil and gas operations, including conventional and unconventional, domestic and international, land and offshore.
DR. JOHN S. SNEIDER is President of Sneider Exploration, Inc., an exploration/exploitation consulting service that conducts studies around the world, but with a focus in Latin America, China, North Africa and the United States. He is also involved with industry training with more than 18 years' experience in Venezuela, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Mexico, the North Sea, Switzerland, Korea, China, the Gulf Coast, Alaska, and the Permian Basin. From 1994 to the present, he has been a partner in PetroTech Associates, providing exploration/exploitation with analysis and evaluation of reservoir, seal and flow barrier rock types. From 1989 to 1990 he was a consultant for Green Hill Petroleum, Inc., in East Texas, and previously was a geologist with Shell Oil, Inc., in South Texas. While working on his PhD in Geology and Geophysics at Rice University, he spent 18 months in the Elf Acquitaine Paris office working various sequence stratigraphy projects focusing in the North Sea. He received a BS and an MS in Geology from Texas A&M and a PhD in Geology and Geophysics from Rice University.
DR. CARL H. SONDERGELD is Professor and Curtis Mewbourne Chair, Mewbourne School of Petroleum and Geological Engineering at the University of Oklahoma. He has over 12 years in the field of education and over 19 years with Amoco as a Special Research Associate working in rock physics. He has developed course manuals, newsletters, web pages and two software packages: Rock Properties Database and Analysis System and Unified Rock Modeling Software. He has published over 75 papers on various subjects and he is principal or co-author on 14 patents. He received a Ph.D. in geophysics from Cornell University and both an M.A. and B.A. in geology from Queens College of the City of New York.
