Operator Training - Oil Production and Processing

About

This course will cover basic oil production and processing facilities, from the wells to finished products. The primary focus is on operations, but key aspects of design/sizing and equipment selection will also be covered to provide deeper understanding. The impact of the well stream composition and properties is a main theme of the course, including the effect of typical heavy oil characteristics on facilities design and operation. The key aspects of solution gas and produced water handling will be covered at a high level. Basic operating parameters will be discussed for each equipment module including a short section on basic troubleshooting. Real-world operational problems will be utilized throughout the class to reinforce the learning objectives. The course is mainly focused on onshore oil operations, but most of the content is equally applicable to offshore operations as well. The course is primarily targeted at operations personnel but would also be a good primer for new facilities engineers. 

Target Audience

This course is aimed at Senior to Mid-level Operations Personnel, and Facilities Engineers involved with the operation of both onshore and offshore oil production and processing facilities. 

You Will Learn

  • The basics of well production characteristics and well performance, and their impact on facilities design and operation.
  • The range of fluid compositions and properties encountered in oil production and processing facilities, from heavy oil to the newer light oil typically associated with shale/tight oil developments, and their impact on facilities design and operation.
  • Processing requirements and associated equipment types typically utilized to deliver the finished products required, and their associated quality specifications. Emphasis will be placed on the different flow schemes (PFD’s) normally employed for the various development scenarios encountered, e.g. onshore/offshore, wells drilled from pads or not, light oil vs heavy oil, sweet/sour, etc.
  • How the various equipment types of work, when and why they are used and how the pieces fit together to achieve the overall processing objectives.
  • Operating parameters and troubleshooting basics for the major systems and equipment types
