About
Analogous to flight simulator training for pilots, Petroskills’ SIM courses simulate realistic operations and upsets and allow practicing troubleshooting skills in a risk-free environment. This interactive 2-day course combines elements of high fidelity, generic process simulators as well as a student-driven learning model centered around the INSTO (TM) Methodology. PetroSkills Simulation Solutions 2-Day Courses teach operators how to build a mental model of various processes and stress critical thinking skills for operators that can be brought back to the control room. In this course each trainee will have access to their own generic simulators including Centrifugal Pumps, Centrifugal Compressor (Fundamental) and Centrifugal Compressor w/ Utilities (Intermediate). Trainees will have an opportunity to startup each piece of equipment as well as spend time troubleshooting common pump and compressor malfunctions. Operations that promote both safety as well as optimization are stressed throughout the course. The material of the course is applicable to natural gas processing, refineries, petrochemical sites, chemical plants, LNG, and any other facilities that operate pumps and compressors.
Target Audience
Console Operators, Outside Operators, Operations Supervisors, and Operations Engineers that work with pumps and compressors
You Will Learn
- Identify equipment, valves and instrumentation on P&IDs, HMI and in the field through the 3D VR environment as well as key operating points for pumps and compressors
- Determine the effects of pressure, temperature, and flows have on unit performance
- Assess critical safety concerns during the startup, shutdown and restart of pumps and compresors as well as simulate startup and shutdown procedures
- Analyze trends and relate this information to various normal and abnormal situations for amine unites
- Utilize the Think EQ.U.I.P.P.E.D.™ method, a quick root cause analysis, that can identify most common process upsets in real time.
- Practice techniques for unit optimization
